Designing through change

My experience at Telefónica took place during the company’s 2025–2026 transformation. I started in a design team focused on Web3 and metaverse initiatives before transitioning to a Product Research team following a strategic reorganization.

Digital ID

User research on digital identity at Telefónica. Interviews exploring how people perceive control, privacy and trust around the EUDI Wallet and verifiable credentials.

Introducción

Europe is moving towards a future where every citizen carries their official documents on their phone. The eIDAS 2 regulation requires every member state to offer a European digital wallet, the EUDI Wallet, by December 2026, holding ID cards, diplomas and other documents as verifiable credentials. Telefónica was already working along those lines with its self sovereign identity proposal. Before designing anything, there was a more basic question to answer. Do people actually know what their digital identity is, and would they trust a wallet to hold it?

My Work

We set up a qualitative research study with in depth interviews with 10 people across mixing more technical profiles with less tech savvy ones across a wide range of ages. The discussion guide moved along three lines. How much control people believe they have over their personal data today, how much trust they place in a solution coming from the European framework, and what changes when the provider is a telecoms operator rather than a bank or a public administration.

Gigafactory

Introducción

An AI Gigafactory is an infrastructure built to train and deploy artificial intelligence models at scale, with GPU clusters, storage, private networking and MLOps tooling. The portal where all those services are bought and managed started from a proposed architecture of six top level sections that had never been put in front of a user. The question was easy to ask and a good deal harder to answer. Does that way of grouping the catalogue match the mental model of the people who will be working with it every day?
